ProTerm ST v1.0
By Hagop Janoyan
(c)1988 Atari Corner Publishing
July 26, 1988
"ProTerm ST, the Solution to Your Terminal Needs!"
List of Features:
Playback/Record, Up to 19200 Baud, Fully Mouse Controlled, Transfer
Section, A Unique Editable Buffer Mode, Serial Buffer can be Up to 31K,
Macros, Macro-to-Macro Link, Many Disk Functions, Arc/UnArc from WITHIN
the Program, Run External Programs, Save Default Options and Macros, A On-
Screen clock and Timer, A On-Screen Display of Setup, Free-Ram display,
Transfer with Xmodem, Ymodem, Ymodem Batch, or Zmodem, Block Feature from
Buffer Mode, On-Line Help, Both Color and Mono supported, A Unique Dial
Mode, AutoDialer, Multiple Number Dialer, Load/Save Dial Directory, and
much much MUCH more!
With all these features, I hope you will see why I find this program to be
different from other Shareware/Public Domain Term programs - it includes
features that resemble, if not improve, the ones found in commercial
Terminal programs. However, since it lacks the major parts that make up a
commercial program, I would never try or hope to compete against them!
This doc file will (or should!) explain to you more about this program;
however, this does not cover the program feature by feature.
NOTE: This program is shareware, meaning if you like it, pay for it!
Also, even though both color and mono monitors are supported, this program
is best suited to be run in medium res on a color monitor. More info will
be found in this document:
I. About ProTerm ST...
ProTerm ST is a simple to use terminal program. It includes a Transfer
Mode, Terminal Mode, Dial Mode, and Buffer Mode. You can get more help
from each section by pressing "HELP" while in the appropriate mode. I
have tried to make the mouse as useful as possible, and this reflects on
the use of Icons that you will find in the Main Menu.
II. Distribution rules...
I have put this program in the shareware. This means that you can
distribute it as widely as possible. The more _you_ spread it around, the
merrier I get!
However, if you like ProTerm ST, please send a small donation to:

Glendale, CA 91205
Sending at least $10-$15 will get you registered. This will allow you to
receive upgrade notices as they become available (hopefully, at least once
in a week or two), and offer you the option to send your disk to receive
the newest version. When you send in for an upgrade, I will also include
the source code to this program (in GFA Basic), as well as RZ.TTP and
SZ.TTP, which are necessary to use Zmodem (see below).
I am also working on a detailed manual to accompany this program. If you
become a registered user, I will send you the finished manual as it
becomes available.
NOTE: When you send your donation, please include your name, address, your
phone number, and any comments you have. I also accept any suggestions
for future versions of this program, so send in your comments! Of course,
your suggestions would mean much more to me if they are sent with some
money...[grin]
III. Transfer Section...
After you use ProTerm ST, you will notice that the transfer section uses
external programs to do the transferring. I did this because I was not
able to write my own Xmodem/Ymodem/Zmodem routines.
I used WXYTR.TTP for Xmodem, Ymodem, and Ymodem batch, RZ.TTP for Zmodem
download, and SZ.TTP for Zmodem Upload. You will not find RZ.TTP and
SZ.TTP on this Arc file. The reason for this is that these programs take
up 35K each, and bundling these with the Arc file would almost double its
size. Since most users only need X/Ymodem, I decided to not worry about
Zmodem for right now. However, if you become a registered user, I will
send you those two programs when you send in for an upgrade. Or, you can
grab them from some Bulletin Board Services (BBS's) or commercial services
such as GEnie.
IV. Bugs?
Yes, this program, like most other ST programs, contains numerous Bugs,
or errors on my part! Some of them are caused by unknown reasons, and the
others are the ones that I cannot fix. Here is a list of bugs that I have
found thus far:
1) The sideways arrows in the Buffer window might give you some trouble
in some cases. I know the cause, I can fix it, but that would require
more work than is necessary.
2) The Execute Program function will crash the program if you try to
execute certain programs. It will successfully run many major word
processors, spreadsheets, etc., however.
Hey, there are only two bugs in this program! What a great program,
right? Actually, you will find many other bugs, but I just cannot list
all of them right now.
V. Accessories and ProTerm ST...
Some of you GFA Basic (which this program is written in) programmers
might already have noticed that GFA programs will not halt when you
open an Accessory. Thus, you can have your Accessories execute (in the
Main Menu only) _while_ you are doing other operations - at least in most
cases. This will give you limited multi-tasking. However, this can cause
some major problems. I have tried to handle this problem as best as I
can. I allowed you to redraw the image by clicking on the bottom of the
screen. And, I made the icons moveable so you can place them anywhere on
the screen to not interefere with the Accessories.
VI. Mono monitors and ProTerm ST...
Sorry, but I probably have failed in trying to make this program run in
monochrome mode. Since I only own a color monitor, I do not know how this
program really works in monochrome. I used a mono emulator to test this
program out in hi-rez. The program seemed to run pretty efficiently, but
the emulator itself does not allow my color monitor to display the exact
results that a mono monitor produces. Attention Mono Users: If you find
some serious flaws when run in monochrome, I would appreciate if I was
informed about it.
VI. Future Upgrades...
Some of the future plans for ProTerm ST include:
1) A much improved Buffer Mode
2) Better support for mono users
3) Connect detect feature
4) DTR drop
5) Improved Dial Mode
6) Better disk drive operations
7) Keyboard Equivalents To Menu Commands
8) Compact Code = Smaller Program Size
9)KeyboardTranslation
10) DefinableEmulations(eg.AnsiEmulation)
...and maybe in the not-so near future:
10) My own routines for X/Y/Zmodem
11) Support for .DO Flash files
12) One line commands similar to Flash
13) Support for a non-GEM interface
14) ...and maybe Convert And Compile in C or Pascal For
Even Faster Execution Speed and Even More Compact!

program is copyrighted by "Atari Corner Publishing". I have used the name

for the Transfer programs [see above]). Since there are many fans of GFA
Basic out there, who would like any new hints and tips they can get their
hands on, I will gladly give the source code of this program to anyone who
requests for it. You might also be able to find the source code of this
program on a few Bulletin Board Services, so download it at will and
spread them to your friends! HOWEVER, I WILL NOT ALLOW _ANYONE_ TO MODIFY
THE PROGRAM AND RELEASE IT BACK INTO PUBLIC DOMAIN/SHAREWARE. If you do
modify, and feel that it should be in the public domain, then please
