  28. With all these features, I hope you will see why I find this program to be 
  29. different from other Shareware/Public Domain Term programs - it includes 
  30. features that resemble, if not improve, the ones found in commercial 
  31. Terminal programs.  However, since it lacks the major parts that make up a 
  32. commercial program, I would never try or hope to compete against them!  
  33. This doc file will (or should!) explain to you more about this program; 
  34. however, this does not cover the program feature by feature.

  37. NOTE: This program is shareware, meaning if you like it, pay for it!  
  38. Also, even though both color and mono monitors are supported, this program 
  39. is best suited to be run in medium res on a color monitor.  More info will

  47. I.   About ProTerm ST...
  48.  
  49.   ProTerm ST is a simple to use terminal program.  It includes a Transfer 
  50. Mode, Terminal Mode, Dial Mode, and Buffer Mode.  You can get more help 
  51. from each section by pressing "HELP" while in the appropriate mode.  I 
  52. have tried to make the mouse as useful as possible, and this reflects on 
  53. the use of Icons that you will find in the Main Menu.

  58. II.  Distribution rules...
  59.  
  60.   I have put this program in the shareware.  This means that you can 
  61. distribute it as widely as possible.  The more _you_ spread it around, the 
  62. merrier I get!

  70. Sending at least $10-$15 will get you registered.  This will allow you to 
  71. receive upgrade notices as they become available (hopefully, at least once 
  72. in a week or two), and offer you the option to send your disk to receive 
  73. the newest version.  When you send in for an upgrade, I will also include 
  74. the source code to this program (in GFA Basic), as well as RZ.TTP and 
  75. SZ.TTP, which are necessary to use Zmodem (see below).

  79. become a  registered user, I will send you the finished manual as it 
  80. becomes available.

  92. III. Transfer Section...
  93.  
  94.   After you use ProTerm ST, you will notice that the transfer section uses 
  95. external programs to do the transferring.  I did this because I was not 
  96. able to write my own Xmodem/Ymodem/Zmodem routines.

  98. I used WXYTR.TTP for Xmodem, Ymodem, and Ymodem batch, RZ.TTP for Zmodem 
  99. download, and SZ.TTP for Zmodem Upload.  You will not find RZ.TTP and 
  100. SZ.TTP on this Arc file.  The reason for this is that these programs take 
  101. up 35K each, and bundling these with the Arc file would almost double its 
  102. size.  Since most users only need X/Ymodem, I decided to not worry about 
  103. Zmodem for right now.  However, if you become a registered user, I will 
  104. send you those two programs when you send in for an upgrade.  Or, you can 
  105. grab them from some Bulletin Board Services (BBS's) or commercial services 
  106. such as GEnie.

  111. IV.  Bugs?
  112.  
  113.   Yes, this program, like most other ST programs, contains numerous Bugs, 
  114. or errors on my part!  Some of them are caused by unknown reasons, and the 
  115. others are the ones that I cannot fix.  Here is a list of bugs that I have 
  116. found thus far:
  117.  
  118. 1)   The sideways arrows in the Buffer window might give you some trouble 
  119. in some cases.  I know the cause, I can fix it, but that would require 
  120. more work than is necessary.
  121.  
  122. 2)   The Execute Program function will crash the program if you try to 
  123. execute certain programs.  It will successfully run many major word 
  124. processors, spreadsheets, etc., however.

  127. Hey, there are only two bugs in this program!  What a great program, 
  128. right?  Actually, you will find many other bugs, but I just cannot list 
  129. all of them right now.

  134. V.   Accessories and ProTerm ST...
  135.  
  136.   Some of you GFA Basic (which this program is written in) programmers 
  137. might already have noticed that GFA programs will not halt when you 
  138. open an Accessory.  Thus, you can have your Accessories execute (in the 
  139. Main Menu only) _while_ you are doing other operations - at least in most 
  140. cases.  This will give you limited multi-tasking.  However, this can cause 
  141. some major problems.  I have tried to handle this problem as best as I 
  142. can.  I allowed you to redraw the image by clicking on the bottom of the 
  143. screen.  And, I made the icons moveable so you can place them anywhere on 
  144. the screen to not interefere with the Accessories.

  149. VI.  Mono monitors and ProTerm ST...
  150.  
  151.   Sorry, but I probably have failed in trying to make this program run in 
  152. monochrome mode.  Since I only own a color monitor, I do not know how this 
  153. program really works in monochrome.  I used a mono emulator to test this 
  154. program out in hi-rez.  The program seemed to run pretty efficiently, but 
  155. the emulator itself does not allow my color monitor to display the exact 
  156. results that a mono monitor produces.  Attention Mono Users:  If you find 
  157. some serious flaws when run in monochrome, I would appreciate if I was 
  158. informed about it.

  163. VI.  Future Upgrades...

  192. program is copyrighted by "Atari Corner Publishing".  I have used the name 
  193. Atari Corner Publishing to represent my not-so-many public domain 
  194. programs.  It is in no way connected with Atari Corporation.

  197.   Source Code:  This program is written completely in GFA Basic (except 
  198. for the Transfer programs [see above]).  Since there are many fans of GFA 
  199. Basic out there, who would like any new hints and tips they can get their 
  200. hands on, I will gladly give the source code of this program to anyone who 
  201. requests for it.  You might also be able to find the source code of this 
  202. program on a few Bulletin Board Services, so download it at will and 
  203. spread them to your friends!  HOWEVER, I WILL NOT ALLOW _ANYONE_ TO MODIFY 
  204. THE PROGRAM AND RELEASE IT BACK INTO PUBLIC DOMAIN/SHAREWARE.  If you do
